Being an inspiration to others

Blogathon post 11/30

I saw two brothers walking to the bus stop every morning towards the end of my run for probably 3 to 4 years. They always greeted me and as time went on they would often chat a bit and ask what I'm training for.

At some stage their younger sister also joined them as she went to the same university. One day they told me that she did a project about me for one of her subjects. Apparently she found me so inspiring that she wrote a thesis about motivation and inspiration with me as a subject and example. I was surprised but must admit it felt great to know I inspired someone so much.

I haven't seen them this year, but last week a car stopped me during my run and it was my three friends. They were very happy to see me and said once again how inspiring it was to see me still at it. They have never seen someone so dedicated they said.

The two brothers are now working and their sister is in her final year. The years certainly passed quickly and I am quite proud of myself for still keeping at it and still staying motivated. Running is a part of my life and I love it, but seeing these kids and hearing that I inspire them certainly motivates me.

I think it is a gift and privilege to be in a position to inspire others. I hope I can do so for many years to come.

Wow! Most of the time you never know who's really taking note of your life so it's nice to hear that you've impacted other people positively.
