Help Brendon Fund Raiser Ride

Yesterday Anette and I took part in the fund raising event organised to help Brendon MacDonald's family raise the necessary funds for the urgent operation he needs. (See previous post)

Even though it was an icy cold morning, we had a lot of fun.

The ride was held at the Boswell Wilkie circuis grounds at Daleside just outside Meyerton. This is about 15km from home so it was quick and easy to get there.

The ride was off-road on some mountain bike trails at the venue. As far as I know these trails were made and are maintained by the DOC Mountain Bike Club. It is a great place to come for some easier mountain biking.

Anette getting ready.

We chose the shorter ride as we are new on the mountain biking scene and Anette even rode with her slick road tires. I have to give special mention to her for the way she was keeping pace right up front, dropping quite a few riders along the way. She showed again that the legs and head are much stronger and better than the best 29'er out there...

We really enjoyed the ride and the magnificent burger afterwards was just as good. The ride itself was a zig-zag and criss-cross affair of an open field with lots of grass plumes and also 100's of mole heaps and holes to add to the fun.

Zig-zag route across the grass field.

There was quite a nice turnout and we wish Brendon all the best with his operation later this week.

We will certainly include this venue in our training for our mountain bike race in September.

Happy training everyone and have a super week!

Cycling for a cause

This Sunday Anette and I will take part in a cycle race. This is a charity event to help a family raise funds for an operation their son desperately needs.

CYCLE TO KEEP THIS YOUNG MAN WALKING: Brendon Macdonald suffers from severe and progressive scoliosis and needs an urgent operation on July 28. Join the cycle challenge to make this possible!

When Anette saw the article above in our local newspaper she immediately committed us to the cycle and the cause. So Sunday morning at 10:00 we'll set of on our ride.

I'm really excited to get out for a race again and even more so for helping someone at the same time.

Mmmm... next week I'll write my first ever cycle race report...

Have a super weekend everyone!

I'm Following Doctor's Orders

With my leg, foot and back finally on the mend I am getting back into regular training. For me this is usually 6 days of running a week, but now it is 6 days of training a week.

I am listening to the doctor and will only run twice a week for now and slowly build back up. I will cycle on the days I'm not running and for now I will take a rest day every week as well. I will later increase running to 3 times per week and gradually get back to where I should be.

With the 94.7 Cycle Challenge I'm entered for on 15 November I will probably continue with more cycling until then.

For now my week looks like this:

Mon - Run
Tue - Cycle
Wed - Cycle
Thu - Run
Fri - Rest
Sat - Cycle
Sun - Cycle

The runs will be very short for now as I must remember I am coming back from stress fractures in my right femur. I certainly don't want to go through this again... I will listen to the doctor!

Three Things Thursday

1. My foot is almost 100% recovered and I should be able to start some running next week.

2. I will continue training outside on the mountain bike as weather permits.

3. I have added the racer on the indoor trainer to the mix for those mornings when the temperature is around the 0°C mark.

Happy training everyone!
