A Few Goal Changes

I did a post about my goals for 2012 some time back and since then things have changed quite a bit. The main reason for this being that I did not get into the Pikes Peak Marathon. This changed a few things…

The main change is that I will not run Comrades this year. I was planning Comrades as part of my Pikes Peak training but that has changed totally. My main goals are now all in the 2nd half of the year. There are still one or two maybe’s as well, but in short my list now looks like this:

  • 15 April – SlowMag Half Marathon
  • 6 May – Colgate 32km (20 miler)
  • 17 June – Gauteng Winter Trail XL 20km
  • 7 July – Num Num Trail Challenge 36.5km (main goal)
  • 14 July – Springbok Vasbyt 25km
  • 29 July – Cape Storm Highveld Challenge 30km
  • 18 August – Crazy Store Magaliesberg Challenge 35km
  • 8 Sept – Mont-Aux-Sources 50km Challenge (main goal)
  • October – Golden Gate 3 Day Challenge (not sure of dates yet)
  • 3 November – Kaapse Hoop Marathon
  • 24 November – Sani Stagger Marathon (main goal)
  • 31 Dec to 01 Jan – Year to Year 24 Hour Circuit Race (main goal)

Although the first half of the year is not too serious the second half certainly makes up for that.

Happy running everyone!

Is the Golden Gate the one you'd planned to do last year where you camp along the way? What a cool experience!!

Such a bummer you can't do Pike's Peak, but now I don't have to stress out finding a way there. :)

Your schedule looks like you have a lot of exciting stuff ahead of you. :)

That's an impressive list. And it ends with such a big challenge. The 24 hr circuit race - how long is the circuit?

I am impressed Johann! But I know you do it and probably do well too. You inspire me.

It a very challenging plan, Johann, considering that you've planned to run three races on July (7th, 14th and 29th)!

I love the idea of ringing in 2013 with a 24-hour race!

Wow no Pikes Peak or Comrades? I'm shocked. But it looks like you've more than made up for it with a very exciting schedule for the 2nd half.

Wow. That's some schedule!!! No Comrades surprises me. Shows your are spontaneous. : )) Looking forward to reading about these exciting races, especially the 24 hour race. I'm running my first 24 hr. race this year. I have no idea really what to expect. Here's to a good upcoming week!

I did not realize that you didn't get in to Pike's, I was just wondering when you were arriving. Sorry to hear that, but it is not going away. I love the race but will not be doing it for a few years myself.

I can fill up really fast. I think 20 minutes for Field 1 was the record a few years ago.

Good luck with the season. It has been tough for me . . . making a lot of big mistakes during the last few ultras, but it is all good training for Leadville.

Mount Evans Ascent is this weekend . . . want to PR, so let's see how it goes. Uder 2:30
