Wonderful to see but so sad...

If you follow my blog or just read my posts regularly, you will know that I am a nature lover. I am at my happiest when I am out in nature somewhere close to its creatures. Living in South Africa makes this wonderful as we have fantastic fauna and flora to experience and trail running makes this incredible sometimes.

So I was really sad when I saw these Rhino on our way back from the Num-Num Trail Challenge last week. It is wonderful that someone is looking after them and they are there for me and my children to see.

But their horns have been cut off to keep them safe from poachers...

This is just not right. We are destroying our wonderful planet with its wonderful wildlife.

Amen Johan. The greed factor together with a total lack of foresight!

So incredibly sad! I just get heartbroken when I read about the numbers of big animals left and see things like this. I understand there is lots of money in killing/selling parts of these animals and that it is a complicated issue, but I just can't imagine harming one of these amazing creatures.

The killing and poaching of animals is incredibly sad. I enjoy seeing the different animals on your posts.

They talked to us about this while I was visiting and while I understand the reasons, I hate that it is necessary. People should be better than that.

I'm just glad that someone thought of cutting their horns to keep them alive.

Very sad indeed. I am glad they are being protected but their lives are not the same without the horn (self-protection and all)

It's a sad day when animals have to be mutilated just to stop them from being killed. Do they do the same for elephants with their tusks?

Completely agree, Johann! Unfortunately there isn't enough awareness about the importance of environment and animals on the planet. Most people still take everything for granted.

That is awful! I understand why I guess, but it's sad it has to be done in the first place.

It is so very sad :(, but thankfully their lives are being spared by having their horns cut off. Hopefully they don't know their horn-less.

I am also sad to see how bad the humans are.
I am member of many associations for the protection of the animals.
The biggest problem is that the animals don't vote!!!!
