Three Things Thursday

I don't often do the three things Thursday post, but today I have three things to say.  :)

1. This Sunday sees the running of the Comrades Marathon here in South Africa so anyone and anything that has something to do with road running in the country is all Comrades at the moment. This year is a down run of just over 89km (55.3 miles). I’m not there this year but have lots of friends running. All the best to everyone!

2. Talking about Comrades…a sad shoutout to my good friend Staci (Sandal Girl) who’s mom passed away last weekend. Condolences to all of you my friend. Staci’s dad, Alan Robb, is one of the all time Comrades greats with 4 wins and 12 gold medals (top 10) to his name.  He ran and finished his 38th consecutive Comrades last year. This from the Comrades website:

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has been left disheartened at the sad news of the sudden passing away of Merle Robb, wife of Comrades great Alan Robb.

Merle will be remembered as the dedicated spouse of one of the Comrades Marathon’s greatest runners, who was always by her husband’s side. CMA Chairman Peter Proctor says, ‘This is such sad news. As CMA officials, we were always impressed at the way in which Merle stood by Alan. She was definitely his dedicated support system’.

Proctor adds, ‘We send our heartfelt condolences to Alan and wish him strength during this trying time.’

3. Anette and I are still following the Body for Life program and we are losing an average of 0.5 to 1kg (1.1 to 2.2 pounds) per week. Anette is slowly building up her running as well and will run her first trail race on 17 June. She will do the 5km while I’m doing the 20km at the Gauteng trail series. You can read Anette’s latest blog post on our family blog.

Thanks for reading and happy training!

Condolences to Staci.

On the positive side, good to hear your diet and training are moving apace. So strange to think you're moving into Winter though.

I am sorry about your friend's loss.

Great job both of you on sticking to the program. Can't wait for the race report and pictures, of course. :)

Oh, such sad news about Staci's mom. :(

I imagine it's weird to not be running Comrades, but given all the bad runs due to that lingering cough, it may be good. It's so cool that Annett is building her running and that can be something you guys can share. :) Now if she can get you onto a bike....

I can't wait to see how Annette likes her race! How often do you run Comrades? Is it hard to get into?

I have four of my squad friends over in your part of the world at the moment. They were on safari yesterday so, assuming that no one was eaten by wild animals, the four of them will be lining up on the weekend to run.

That's so sad about Staci's mom. I'll have to pop over to her blog, haven't been there in awhile.

Commrades is high on my list to do one day. I gotta rob a bank I guess if I have any chance of making it out there! :)

Great job to you an Anette on the weight loss. I need Body for Life...or Super Glue my mouth shut, either one!

My condolences to Staci's mom. Will you be spectating Comrades?
Great job sticking with the Body for Life - I need to get with a program too. Inspiring!

You and Annette are making HUGE strides, Johann! Those are some good averages.

Good luck to everyone at Comrades! It sounds like there should be a national holiday in its honour in SA.

Congratulations to you and Anette on your weight loss success. Keep it up!

You and Annette are doing so well! Congrats--i know it's not easy.

Sad about Staci's mother. I didn't know that about her father. Quite impressive!

I'll be thinking about the Comrades runners this weekend!

Just seen that British runner Ellie Greenwood got a 2nd place at Comrades. It sounds like a great event.

Congrats to you and your wife on your discipline and weight loss, and good luck to Anette for her race!

Woah! I'm really enjoying the template/theme of this blog. It's simple,
yet effective. A lot of times it's difficult to get that "perfect balance" between usability and appearance. I must say you have done a amazing job with this. Additionally, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Internet explorer. Superb Blog!
