Just after 4 AM. Runners already at the start.
Sitting on the road between 4 and 5 AM.
Waiting for the start. I rate this the best start on the planet.
On our way in the dark.
Beautiful morning!
Bottom of Cowies Hill
Pinetown.
Not much running on Fields Hill
The road is long…
Botha’s Hill, another tough climb.
Comrades wall of honour.
Flowers at Arthur’s seat.
Inchanga just after half way. A real monster.
More than a marathon done…a marathon to go…
That’s all for now! Have a splendid weekend everyone!

I love the photos you post after a race - always makes me feel like I was there. That race is insane ... great job!
Thanks for sharing...I hope the toe is feeling better.
Holy cow, Inchanga looks like a beast!
I love the photos
I hope your toe is healing fast
Johann, I was thinking of you on Sunday, wondering how it was going and I'm so sorry to hear about your toe! Must be a big disappointment, but hopefully it will heal soon and not cause any lasting problems. Thanks for sharing the pictures - it looks like an amazing event. Hopefully there is another one in your future sometime soon!
You take the best race photos! Looks like quite the event.
It was so dark at the start. I love races where it's dark and then you start running and it lightens up all around you and then turns so bright and sunny. Just perfect! It's a wonderful creation, this world.
Nice photos.
Hope the toe is better soon
Love the pics and wow, those hills are tough! Hope the toe is healing up nicely!! Happy Weekend!
happy friday too johann..keep going!
What's the significance of the "flowers at Arthur's seat"?
Wow that looks tough...and hot. thanks so much for sharing the pics...probably as close as I'll ever come to Comrades!
I've just been listening to the Marathon Talk podcast, where the 2 presenters were discussing their first attempt at Comrades! They said the start and finish were particularly amazing. Great photos, glad the toe doesn't seemed to have dampened your spirit!
That last caption says a lot! Hope you're healing.
Those climbs are impressive! Thanks for sharing a glimpse of this event with us!
johann..just read your previous post..sorry to hear about your toe..hope it mends quickly!
Great photos. I love the start picture - the pre-dawn darkness - I can almost feel the anticipation and excitement. Then the dawning day with so far to go. And all those people with one goal in mind p to conquer Comrades.
Glad to see your usual awesome pics and am so sorry to hear about the havoc your toe played in the race...
So sorry to hear about your toe but I hope you're back and ready for the trails as soon as possible!! Thanks so much for the great pictures, we thought about you all weekend!
Great pics. I listened to a podcast last night about Comrades....they said the 1st aid station was so packed you couldn't even get to it.
They also said the winner ran a 6 minutes pace. Can you believe that? I cannot. 6 minute pace for over 50 miles. Seems unhuman to me.
Great photos. I am impressed by the pictures in the dark. Unusual for me.
Loved this. Thank you so much for sharing, Johann.
I am so inspired by your positive outlook.
Great photo spread - almost like actually being there to spectate!
Love the photos, Johann! Hope you are healing up nicely.
Great report, Johann!
What about you? I hope your toe will go well soon!
Johann, are you considering running Badwater???
If you ever do, I will be happy to crew for you.
Really enjoyed these pictures. I watched the finish live on-line, and it was tremendous. Brought tears to my eyes.
