Three Things Thursday

1.) I received this in the mail a few days ago…

A finishers certificate for the Mont-Aux-Sources 50km challenge I ran in September. It was accompanied by a letter to thank me for running and donating to the Conservation Trust. Another great gesture from a great event.

2.) Comrades Marathon entries stand at 10811 this morning. Entries close on 30 November and will be capped at 18000. I’m not sure they’ll get 18000 this year but we’ll see. It’s still crazy...already nearly 11000 runners aiming to run 90km (55.8 miles) next May. I’ll start posting more about Comrades soon.

3.) Staying with the Comrades; it was announced yesterday that this year’s Comrades made a Guinness World Record for the ultra marathon with the most finishers. This year 14343 runners finished the 90km race within the 12 hour cutoff time.

Hi Johann,
Anyone who runs a marathon is impressive in my book! Anyone who can do over 50 is amazing:) Did you sign up for both of these races? Looking at the number of people who sign up for these races...shows me that there has got to be something special there. Maybe after a few more marathons I would consider doing something a little longer:) Too bad that you didn't live over here...you could pace me:)

What an awesome feeling it would be to stand among that many people with the same amazing goal. I think Conrades finishers are truly amazing. Looking forward to the ongoing updates!

I remember years ago when local races would send out postcards showing the official time, overall place, gender place and division place (pre-internet). I miss getting those. Nice to see someone still sends them out. Congrats!
Comrades sounds crazy! I'm used to seeing ultra fields in the 100-200 participant range.

That's awesome that the Mont-Aux-Sources 50km challenge sent you a certificate like that.

When I read about Comrades, I get giddy.

Have you entered for Comrades 2011 - I imagine it will be a walk-in-the-park for you after your Mont Aux Sources achievement.
Maybe I'll meet you at Carnival on Sunday?

I am really looking forward to following your Comrades journey - I have read two articles about it in Runner's World and it just fascinates me.

Late congrats for the good job on the 15k. Impressive how so many runners enter such a difficult race. It is beautiful to find a certificate like that in the mail, isn't it?
