"I'd rather be seen on my bicycle than on a park run" - Quote from the dark side

Three Things Thursday

1. A while back I posted about the new running shoes I bought and also about cutting my shoes to be perfect. Well, I’ve now run 184km with the new shoes (Nike Pegasus 27) and so far I don’t need to cut them. The longest run was last Sunday’s half marathon and I had no problems at all. I’ll see when I up the long runs in these shoes if they’ll remain uncut.

2. I’ll be trying out New Balance trail shoes during this weekend’s trail race. They are incredibly comfortable and I hope this means they’ll be great for the trails. Saturday I’ll run my 28.5km long trail run in my old shoes and try the new ones in Sunday’s 14.5km race.

3. I’ve been asked about water sachets a few times so I decided to post something about that. We get our water in sachets at our races and I like that a lot. There are two main reasons I like the sachets. They are easy to carry and they are great for drinking while you run. Byte a small hole in one of the corners and you can regulate the water flow into your mouth or even squirt your body wherever you want, all while running. Some of the bigger races sometimes give energy drinks in sachets as well.

That’s all from me for now. Happy running!

I've never seen those water thingy's before. I reckon they'd be good for throwing at people that breeze too fast by you...

The sachets are a cool idea and easier than trying to run and drink from a cup. I almost exclusively wear a Nathan hydration vest, so I would be in trouble if they did not have pitchers of water!! Shoes are tricky - you definitely want to have them fit perfect. Glad no surgical procedures were required yet...

I first heard about the sachets reading about Comrades, but the complaints were always how hard they were to open! I guess it's what you get used to.

Wow, those water sachets are pretty cool! Great idea and a great way to elimate 6 million water cups. Good luck in the trail race this weekend - those trail shoes sound AWESOME!!!

I'm glad your shoes are working well for you!

Those water satchets remind me of when I used to live in Canada and our milk came in bags. It was much less wasteful - we just purchased reusable containers to put the bags in and that's how we bought our milk.

Are the water/energy drink sachets sold by a vendor there, or are they filled by race volunteers? This is a new concept to me, sounds neat!

They had water sachets at the Melbourne Marathon a couple of years ago and those things are so easy to use. No choking, no spluttering and no spillage.

The sachets are a great idea! The teeny tiny cups they serve water in at races, just don't cut it. Glad the shoes are working out, have fun!

In my opinion the new balance running trail shoes are more confortable than "Nike Pegasus 27". Glad you didn't need to cut your running shoes. Water sachet is a good idea :) You could drink when you want. It's especially useful in summer time.
Have a nice training again Johann!

Loved the sachets when I ran Comrades in '09. Wished they used them in the U.S.

that water sachet is genius! Glad the shoes are working out. I have a month until my marathon and I need new shoes, but I'm a bit worried about breaking new ones in at this point.

I've never seen water sachets before. I wonder if it would slip out of my hands? Or if I'd bite too big of a hole and it would pour out before I got to it. It is a good idea though.

I love the sachets! But what about the enviormental imapact... I guess no different than all those cups! To be able to hang on to it for when you need it is my favorite part!

Good luck (and don't fall) with the trail race. The water sachets are cool--never seen anything like them!

Those sachets do seem like a much better idea than cups... I've had a couple of near death experiences that involved choking on water during races :)

Also, thanks for checking in and commenting on my blog!

Glad you've had shoe success! I was hoping there might be a solution out there.

The water sachets are so cool! Never seen anything like that before.

ahh, lol, thanks for the visual. i've read about those in books but was never sure what they actually looked like. so what if you only want to drink a little and save the rest, does it leak out. is it like America? do you throw them on the ground for ppl to pick up? or do u hang onto it? looks pretty easy to use! cool
