Frustrated Runner!


Yes, the pic above sums up my feelings quite well. I haven't been blogging much because I haven't been running much. That about says it all.

My leg is still sore although it is definitely getting better. The main reason I feel so frustrated is because I still don't know what I did to get this sore leg. If it was a running injury I might have felt better about it.

The past few weeks I often felt like this...


But I am running every day again and even though it is very short runs it does help to keep the frustration levels down. I am busy with a very slow buildup to what will be hopefully pretty normal training by April.

How bad was my leg? Think multiple stress fractures in the femur. That's how bad it felt at some point. Now it is a bit stiff and sore while I run but I don't feel any pain or discomfort through the days or nights anymore. Thinking about it like this I know there is progress and I am on my way to full recovery.

I still think I hurt my leg while gardening on tired legs after the 48 hour race in December. This is the only logical explanation I have so I will go with that.

For now I am back to running 6 times per week...short, but that is much better than no running at all.
At least I am a little less frustrated...

I'm in the same boat these days - my lower legs give me a lot of trouble after just one mile of running. I'e been working on finding and fixing the source of trouble, but no luck yet.

That's crazy, you get a leg injury gardening. It's amazing that we mostly get injured in non running activities. I guess because we are not as careful, who knows. Wishing you a speedy recovery though. I know it must be very frustrating.

I'm sorry you've had to lay low, but you have had an amazing track record of health up until now. Like you said, at least you are getting out for some shorter runs. Hoping you are back up to speed in no time!

Short runs are better than no runs. Sometimes we just push our body too far. It's not any one single thing, but the culmination of everything. I'm glad to hear that you are on the mend though!

I can understand what a frustrating time it has been ... I got injured last Summer while I was digging my mother's garden. And this affected my running.

So weird, the random injury. I'd think that would just add to the frustration. I'm glad you're able to do some running, and I hope the injury resolves soon and you're able to feel back to normal!

Runners get two types of frustration - the frustration of not being able to run at all and the frustration of being able to run but not as much as you want. We don't do well with limits. But you'll get past this. You always do. Just try not to wreck too many laptops in the process.

I am sorry for your situation and the frustration.
I cannot believe how strong you are: you keep on running despite the injury!
However be careful. When I could not run I went to swim.

My knee is frustrating the heck out of me. It actually doesn't feel bad while running but I pay for it later. I did fine in my race but I haven't run since. Ugh. Good luck.
