Tribute to the garden gloves

In my previous post I raved about my NB trail shoes and how great they are. Today I have to pay tribute to these guys…

These gloves were recommended by several runners that ran the mountain race previously. The main reason for taking them on the run is for holding onto the rope while going down the gully.

I put the gloves on long before the gully because it was icy cold and I could not feel my fingers anymore. They were warm and shielded my hands completely from the wind. At the chain ladders I felt comfortable climbing up while grabbing the ladder with these gloves. They were fantastic for the rope and also in many places to hold onto rocks.

I recommend garden gloves for any mountain run where you might have to use your hands in some places. They are great for protecting your hands and are warm as well.

Talking about the gully, you can see where the stone on my trophy comes from…

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

That trophy is reminiscent of the pavé trophies from the Paris-Roubaix bike race. Love the garden gloves, nice simple solution. Probably a company out there that sells mountain running gloves.

You seriously are hard core. The course looks like you need rock climbing gear along with your running shoes. I'm not worthy. Nice trophy.

I can see how the gardening gloves would be useful for that rope section. I, however, think I would be too much of a chicken to do that!

Hi Johann,
I totally get why you would need a good pair of gloves to protect you from the elements that trail and Ultra racing dish up.

That trophy is so cool:) Just think, they made the trophy out of the rock from the gulley that you needed to get across! Great idea!

Johann, I hope that you have a fantastic weekend! Take care of yourself:)

Great advice and they are pretty inexpensive too so if you loose them it's no big deal. Love that trophy!!

What do you recommend for gloves on a bike on a very cold day? I think GG would be too thick but maybe I should try them.

I love alternative uses for everyday items. One of the dance groups I've worked with didn't want to buy expensive gloves for a routine so they bought rubber kitchen gloves. They looked the same as expensive ones from the audience.

Great idea! I have entered the Gauteng summer trail series, not sure if I'll need them there but will pack them just in case. Thanks.

That is one of the best trophies I have ever seen. It's awesome that it ties directly to the race. You are awesome! I am not sure I'll ever have the guts to do something that requires gardening gloves -- other than gardening =)
