Drie Dinge Donderdag (Three Things Thursday)

"Drie Dinge Donderdag" is the direct translation to Afrikaans for "Three Things Thursday". So let's have a look at what is what.

Nommer Een (Number One)
I am sick :( I have flu and some chest infection and have not been able to run at all this week. Really frustrating...

Nommer Twee (Number Two)
Can you believe it is almost the middle of the year! The first half of 2014 is done. I honestly can't believe it and it feels as if I haven't done much so far this year.

Nommer Drie (Number Three)
I plan to run a 10km race on 12 July and really hope this flu will allow me to be ready. It's a trail race with a bit of road thrown in and should be perfect to get me focused on my training for the rest of the year.

That is it from me today. Train well my friends!

Exciting Change Of Goal

I've  had two main goals for the second half of the year. Both were circuit races and I love running them. But now a new race popped up that I just have to do. The Ultra Trail Cape Town.

This will take place on 25 October and I have already entered the 62km event. I have been keen on a trail race in Cape Town for a long time now, but I have really been waiting for an ultra run. So this is it and I am very excited!

So I am changing my 18 hour circuit race goal for October to the Ultra Trail Cape Town 62km goal. My Decmber goal remains as it is with the 48 hour circuit race.

Great reasons to train and prepare with 100% commitment.

Winter Trails

I haven't been on the trails as often as I would like but it was great to be out there this past weekend.

Winter is here! This is not only apparent because of the icy cold temperatures, but can also be seen when looking at the dry surroundings.

Johannesburg gets rain in the summer so the winters are dry and dusty. Green and lush trails turn into dusty brown trails. On Saturday this was clearly visible.

I could smell winter in the air during this run. The first real winter trail smell of the year for me. It is beautiful in a different way.

This pic was taken on my previous run here....

Now look at the same pic from this Saturday...

Winter trails are here! I love winter and winter trails!

Run strong my friends!

Time to catch up with where I am

After my run in with the button spider I was off the grid for a while. I am glad to say I am now fully recovered and feeling 100% myself again.

These little buggers pack a mean punch!

I am back to full training again although I am taking a step or two back with my total weekly distances. The good news is that I have a race at the end of the month and can't wait for it!

I am training for the first race of the Highveld Winter Trail Challenge. This will be on 29 June and is a 17km trail run on some of my local trails, about 7km from home. :)

17km Trail race on 29 June.

Two weeks after this I will run the 25km Springbok Vasbyt in Pretoria.

25km Trail race on 12 July.

Things are looking up and my goals are lined up for the rest of the year. I am already entered for the 48 hour circuit race in Johannesburg in December. Seems like the rest of 2014 will see some proper running from me at last.

Take care and have a super week everyone!
