Throwback Thursday - 1982 Half Marathon

In my Alberton Half Marathon Report I mentioned that it was my 388th half marathon. That caused some reaction, but believe me, here in South Africa that is not all that many. There are many runners with double that number and even more. I will do a post about one of them soon. We have some seriously crazy runners over here.

To go with the theme I decided to post the photo below. This is me finishing my 4th half marathon in 1982.

Wally Hayward Marathon - 1982

Train well and have fun everyone!

  8. 388 half marathons is still impressive even if others have run more. My half count is only in double digits but I'm still proud of that.

  12. In 82 I thought 5 miles was far. Great post about training for the Comrades Marathon. So very true and looks a lot like my training plan except my weekly runs are longer, I do hill repeats because of the flat area I live in, and weight training. I live close to sea level and need hill repeats and weight training to run ultras in the mountains.

  13. I missed that post about the 388th half - holy moly... relative to other South Africans or not, that's a lot of racing!

  14. I don't care how many any other person has run, that is a whole lot of half-marathons. Do NOT qualify it with comparison to anyone else! You look pretty damn studly in that photo!
